Emil Berberov
Project Manager
Dr. Emil Berberov joined VIDO in 2006 as a Project Manager. He received a MSc in biology from Sofia University and a PhD in genetics from the Russian Academy of Sciences. Prior to joining VIDO, Dr. Berberov competed a postdoc in microbiology and genetics and was a research associate at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
As a project manager Dr. Berberov has managed nine research projects totalling over $17 million. These projects were aimed at preventing diseases in animals and humans – tuberculosis, Rift valley fever, peste des petits ruminants, lumpy skin disease, African swine fever, Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic fever, contagious bovine pleuropneumonia. The collaborations included multi-disciplinary teams of experts in wide areas of disease prevention from epidemiology and public heath, to socio-economic studies and vaccine manufacturing. Research teams were located in more than 15 research and industrial organizations in several countries around the world. Dr. Berberov collaborates with journals and funding agencies and communicates in English and Russian and Bulgarian. He is also responsible for managing VIDO’s ISO Quality Management System.
